Bed bugs are horrible and an infestation of them needs to be treated right away. It’s important to know the different treatment options that are available for clothing, homes and furniture. Here is what is currently available to get rid of your bed bug infestation.
Chemicals
You can kill bed bugs with pesticide treatments. However, furniture and other personal items need to be thoroughly cleaned afterwards. Some of these can be harmful for your health. There are over 300 chemicals used for bed bug pesticide and you would need to check with a technician to see which ones they are using.
Heat
Heat treatment uses special machinery to heat your home up 122 F or 50 C. You need to do preparations for before the treatment and not all of your furniture and personal items can take the treatment. However, this treatment is eco-friendly and preferred over harsh chemicals. The treatment time depends on the size of the location and the degree of the infestation.
Clothing can be washed in hot water and dried with high drying temperatures to effectively kill bed bugs and eggs.
Cold
Cold treatment can be applied to clothes and furniture. For clothing you require a freezer with enough space. The temperature needs to be at 0 F or -18 C or below. Place a small amount of clothing in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer for 4 days.
For furniture there is a freezing treatment or CO2 dry ice treatment that can be applied to the affected furniture. Not all furniture can take this treatment.
